NOVENA TO THE SACRED HEART: EIGHTH DAY –
A SORROWFUL HEART
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Apocalypse 21:3-4
“Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity. He will dwell with them,
and they shall be his people,
and God himself will be with them;
he will wipe away every tear
from their eyes,
and death shall be no more,
neither shall there be mourning
nor crying nor pain any more,
for the former things
have passed away.”
REFLECTION FOR THE EIGHTH DAY “When Sorrow Comes” by Rita Snowden. Each time sorrow comes,
let us remember that Jesus’ disciples always found renewal in this confidence: “Because I live, you shall live also” (John 4:19). The ultimate paradox is that the light by which Christians walk was issued from the darkness of a Tomb. But we are “children of the Third day!”, a fact that enables us to work through sorrow.
“There is no ‘getting over’ sorrow. There is rather a ‘getting into’ sorrow, and finding at the hear of it,
the Man of Sorrows Himself.
Words that He spoke to His early disciples have come to me with a comforting relevance –
‘you will be full of sorrow,
but your sorrow will be turned into joy!’ (John 16:20). He was Man of Sorrows – the Crucifixion had a deep effect on His followers, but the wonderful part of that was that He rose triumphant!” Forbes Robinson
He is not dead,
embalmed in creeds,
wrapped in words
that we can learn,
recite, and then forget.
He is alive,
to walk with me and with all people,
to tell me of the love of God,
to share with me .....

TODAY’S PRAYERS
Lord, we call upon You
in this time of sorrow,
that You would give us the strength and will to bear our burdens,
until we can again feel the warmth
and love of Your divine compassion.
Be mindful of us
and have mercy on us
while we struggle
to comprehend life's hardships.
God of all consolation,
in your unending love for us, you turn the darkness
into the dawn of new life. Show compassion
to your people in sorrow. Be our refuge and our strength
to lift us from the darkness
of this present time to peace and joy in your presence.
We ask this through Christ,
the Man of Sorrows
and Bringer of Joy.

when we are suffering, when we need your help, and when we pray for each other. I ask you to listen to my prayer during this Novena,
